About the event
Discovering Your Identity in Christ
Week Four
Questions
What are you learning about your identity in Christ?
What do you think God is saying?
1 Peter 1 (65 AD)
1 Peter 2
1 Peter 3
1 Peter 4
1 Peter 5
God speaks to us, most commonly, through the Bible. He reveals who He is, who we are and how to live well.
The Bible is our source of truth and authority.
The Word of God is living and active, sharper than any double-edged sword, penetrating as far as the separation of soul and spirit, joints and marrow. It is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. Hebrews 4:12
A simple yet powerful process will help us become skilled at hearing and obeying God.
1. Listen alone. Set aside a specific time alone each day, five days a week, to read. Mornings are great, but choose any time that works for you.
a. Begin praying, “Father, show me what you want me to see.”
b. As you read, highlight what stands out to you.
c. Questions to help you explore the reading are on page 8.
2. Listen with a friend. Set aside at least ½ hour a day, five days a week to:
a. Discuss what stood out to you in the reading. (“This is what stood out to me…”)
b. Think through what God is saying to the two of you. (What is God saying to us?)
c. Consider what God wants you to do. (What does God want me/us to do?)
d. Pray scripture together. (Turn a portion of the reading into a prayer, and pray together.)
You are invited to explore the 1st and 2nd Peter.
The texts we read each week will be the source text for the sermon on Sunday. We will read the week before the sermon and then explore together Sundays!
This is a marvelous time to build a working knowledge of God’s Word.
Discovering Your Identity in Christ
Exploring and Discovering Life in Christ
We are going to explore First and Second Peter the next eight weeks. We invite you to read one chapter a day in First Peter the first five weeks. You will complete the book every week! We will read Second Peter weeks six through eight.
You will have a working knowledge of both books by the time we finish.
Here’s what you could experience:
· You will read the Bible.
· You will understand God.
· God will read you.
· You will understand you.
· You will learn about life in God’s kingdom.
This series is designed to help you become competent using questions to open the Bible.
Week One
We have provided familiar and yet powerful questions for the first week:
· What stands out to you?
· What do you think God is saying to you?
Week Two
The second week we encourage you to pursue the questions that arise in your mind as you read each chapter again. Six basic interrogative pronouns are Who, What, When, Where, How, and Why. Space is provided in this guide to give you opportunities to write the questions that come to mind.
Week Three
The third week you could record new awareness, insights, and possibilities that have arisen through the answers you have discovered.
Week Four
The fourth week you will clarify your identity in Christ through what you have learned.
Week Five
The fifth week you will clarify who God has placed in your life so they can seek and find Him and develop a plan to share Jesus with them.
We will pull it all together as we read Second Peter together!
This will be a great adventure!
